Penn State’s Auction Fail

Not sure how much to read into one anecdote, but Penn State tried to put constraints on who could purchase its patents.  Sale didn’t go well, as reported here.

On a professor listserv I’m on they’re reading a lot into it. I’m not sure that, without a whole lot of analysis, you could really conclude anything…

    David, consider that the auction required that the purchaser use the patents. Now if you are an established industry, and you are currently using the patents, what does your participation in the auction imply?

      Oh, and may we request the name of the person(s) who placed this restriction on the auction that we might know not to consider their resume should they be quietly let go?
