Seager Tufte & Wickhem LLP is seeking a Patent Attorney /Agent to work remotely and/or in Minneapolis MN

About the Role:

An Intellectual Property (IP) law firm headquartered in Minneapolis is seeking an experienced Patent Attorney or Patent Agent with at least 5 years of experience and a technical background in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science. This position offers flexibility and may be fully remote or based in our Minneapolis office.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications in both the U.S. and Internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications, including:
    • Utility, design, and utility model applications
  • Responses to Office Actions from USPTO and foreign patent offices
  • Coordinate international patent prosecution with foreign associate counsel
  • Draft patent applications
  • Review invention disclosures, patent applications, and file histories (file wrappers)
  • Prepare and review USPTO forms and required documentation
  • Manage dockets and coordinate workflow across teams, including coordinating with staff and training other attorneys/agents.
  • May assist with due-diligence projects, such as freedom to operate, portfolio review, and IP agreement review.

Qualifications:

  • Must be licensed and/or registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in one of the following:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Computer Science
    • or other Engineering/Material Sciences
  • Minimum of 5 years of patent prosecution experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
