Responsibilities
- Drive operating mechanisms to provide strategic IP counseling at all levels of the business
- Build and manage a patent estate precisely tuned to business objectives
- Sense and protect innovation
- Draft and prosecute patents worldwide
- Perform due diligence to support commercial transactions
- Draft and negotiate IP aspects of technology and commercial transactions
- Ensure freedom to operate for new products
- Sense and mitigate emerging IP risks
- Defend and enforce IP claims
- Manage internal and external legal resources
Qualifications
- Advanced molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry degree (PhD preferred)
- Juris Doctor degree
- Admission to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office and relevant state bar
- 7+ years of intellectual property legal experience
- Significant in-house experience delivering winning strategies for (i) worldwide patent procurement, (ii) contested administrative, judicial and alternative dispute resolution proceedings, (iii) IP licensing and M&A, and (iv) product clearance and risk management
- Experience drafting and prosecuting patents in the US and abroad
- Experience drafting and negotiating IP and commercial technology agreements
- Experience managing patent litigation
- Experience in a publicly traded company preferred
