Additon, Higgins & Pendleton, P.A. an intellectual property law firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina, is seeking an experienced patent agent or patent attorney to join the firm.
The candidate should have a technical background in software, electronics, controls, and the electro-mechanical arts. Technical knowledge or experience in optics and imaging would be a plus. At least one year of experience in patent drafting and patent prosecution in a U.S. law firm (or in house) is required, as well as excellent communication and time management skills. The candidate should be capable of drafting patent applications and/or preparing responses to Office Actions with little instruction. The candidate should also have a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, mechanical engineering, or a similar technical field. Admission to practice before the USPTO is required. For patent attorneys, admission to the North Carolina bar would be a plus.
The successful candidate will primarily draft patent applications but will also prosecute patent applications. The candidate’s responsibilities may include reviewing invention disclosures, drafting and prosecuting patent applications, coordinating international patent prosecution, and advising clients. The candidate will work in a team environment, participate in the management of an international patent portfolio, and have significant client involvement. The firm will consider candidates for part-time and remote, contractual work arrangements.
