OtterBox 
is seeking an experienced and motivated patent attorney to assist with the acquisition and protection of our intellectual property. The selected candidate will join a small existing team of in-house intellectual property professionals, as well as work with a broader group of attorneys specializing in other fields.
What You’ll Do (but not limited to)
- Efficiently draft and prosecute high quality patent applications in the mechanical arts
- Prepare Office Action response and other Patent Office communications
- Harvest inventions from a creative team of engineers and designers
- Team with others to manage a growing intellectual property portfolio
- Assist in the analysis of patents and patent applications held by other companies
- Provide guidance to others regarding intellectual property law, particularly patent law
- Other legal tasks and analysis as needed
What You Need (but not limited to)
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field
- J.D. from a top tier law school
- Admitted to practice law in at least one state
- Registered as a patent attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
- Minimum 2 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications at a reputable law firm and/or in-house, a significant portion of those applications in the mechanical arts and a significant number of applications drafted from scratch
- Attention to detail a must
- Self-motivated, energetic, and team-oriented
- Experience in other areas of intellectual property a plus
- Industry engineering experience a plus, particularly in plastics, molding, manufacturing, or consumer products
