Patent claim counts have dropped steadily over the past few years — driven both by costs-of-additional-claims and by restriction practice. The standard of 20-claims-per-patent continues to remain strong and steady. The chart above shows the number of claims in each published application from the past four weeks.
Dennis – It would be very interesting to break the claim stats down a bit more to show what’s happened over the years to the number of independent versus dependent claims filed. If you have the data, showing that breakdown by tech center would be most helpful. Thanks.
with fewer claims to examine the examination process should be a slight bit easier/quicker than in the past.
