DENTSPLY is seeking a Patent Technical Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Patents, this position will be responsible for assisting with the Patent Section of the DENTSPLY Legal Department in its performance of tasks related to protecting and enforcing Company intellectual property patent rights.
Essential Duties
- Receive and review invention disclosure documents; interact with inventors as needed to complete the disclosures for purposes of patenting and/or freedom to operate opinions.
- Conduct state-of-the-art, patentability, validity and patent landscaping searches as assigned by the Director of Patents
- Maintain the Legal Department Patent Docket database, including creating new case entries; posting incoming Official Actions; daily review of upcoming due dates and interaction with the Patent Lawyers regarding the same; and, monitoring and periodic reporting of patent expiration dates
- Maintain the Patent Maintenance Fee database including interacting with responsible business persons to obtain authorization for payment of the fees.
Interact with Strategic Business Unit (SBU) R&D personnel to monitor, track and report the status of individual projects. - Facilitate electronic filing in U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).
- Maintain corporate patent watches including ongoing competitor watches.
- Litigation assistance, especially discovery matters including locating, obtaining, reviewing and/or discussing development documents with SBU, corporate Legal, and outside counsel.

Qualifications
- Moderate to advance experience with Microsoft Office suite required.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to work effectively with all levels of an organization.
- Motivated self-starter with strong communication, organization and multi-tasking abilities.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in science, engineering or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of one year of patent experience or general knowledge of patent examination required.
