The Washington, D.C. office of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP is in search of a first through third year lateral associate to work in the Patent Practice of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice Group.
Excellent writing skills, superior law school academics, the capacity to manage multiple assignments concurrently, and the ability to produce top quality work with minimal supervision are each required, as well as a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, physics, or biomedical engineering (with an emphasis on electrical and electronics coursework). Prior law firm or U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) work experience, while not required, is highly preferred.
Responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting patent applications (including reissue applications); working on reexamination and patent litigation matters; drafting infringement, validity, and patentability opinions; and assisting with negotiations and client counseling in the electrical and electro-mechanical arts (including telecommunications, semiconductors, commercial electronics, imaging systems, computers, and Internet-based technologies).
