Chicago intellectual property law firm, McDonnell Boehnen Hulbert and Berghoff LLP (MBHB), seeks a patent agent or technical advisor to work closely with attorneys and consult with inventors on patentability issues. The ideal candidate will have a B.S., M.S. or Ph.D. (preferred) in biomedical engineering. Exposure to patent law a plus.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Conduct searches of patent and technical literature in support of patent strategies
- Analyze the patentability of inventions and validity of patents
- Prepare and file patent applications, and participate in prosecution of same before the US Patent Office
- Support the preparation of IP related legal opinions on issues such as freedom to operate, ownership, infringement, and validity
The successful candidate will be highly motivated, and able to organize a workload independently while collaborating with others on projects. Candidates should have excellent analytical abilities and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate comfortably with clients and firm personnel. Also helpful is a flexible and proactive approach to tasks and client demands, as well as the ability to thrive and react quickly and positively in a fast-paced environment.
