Patent Secretary/Admin Assistant – Law Firm – Washington D.C. Metro

Patent attorney seeks an experienced and reliable administrative support assistant for solo patent practice. Duties will include: helping attorney prepare and file patent applications and other documents in the United States Patent & Trademark Office; using patent docketing software to manage patent docket and produce patent status reports; and performing a variety of secretarial and office administrative tasks, including but not limited to general word processing, filing, answering phones, greeting clients and managing the office calendar.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a college degree and three years of law office work experience. Must be extremely proficient at using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and have excellent oral and written communication skills. Superior attention to detail and proofreading skills are also required for this job.

Desirable Qualifications:
Paralegal and/or patent prosecution experience. Skill at producing Microsoft Visio documents. Interest and ability in dealing with highly-technical subject matter, including cutting-edge computer, electrical,  medical and mechanical inventions.

Benefits:
· Pay: $20-30 per hour, depending on experience.

· Extremely flexible hours (e.g., M-F, 8 am to 1 pm, 9 am to 2 pm, 1 pm to 6 pm, or every Friday off) for balancing work with outside demands and other interests -- Free parking is available.  Future full-time work is a possibility as the firm and practice grows.

· This position does not include healthcare, life insurance or retirement benefits.
