• Assist with the preparation of comprehensive patent portfolio summary documents and conducting patent portfolio reviews
• Contribute to the development of strategy and arguments related to global opposition, invalidation and revocation proceedings;
• Assist in the evaluation of Gilead’s patent portfolio in advance of litigation and engage in the activities to maximize the strength of same;
• On occasion, conduct or assist in freedom-to-operate, validity and due diligence analysis and prepare opinions regarding same; and

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
• Bachelors degree in biology, chemistry, pharmacy or other related life sciences degree.

Duties:
A patent examiner (PE) reviews patent applications to determine if they comply with Federal law and regulation and scientific principle. A PE scrutinizes patent applications, determines the scope of protection claimed by the inventor, researches relevant technologies, and communicates findings and decisions to patent practitioners and/or inventors.

The PE conducts extensive reviews of a large body of technical information, including detailed drawings as represented in electrical schematic, 3-dimensional mechanical portrayed drawings or chemical manufacturing process diagrams.

The position requires the analytical ability to efficiently digest large volumes of scientific information and to use this in making timely decisions regarding the patentability of an application.
